Maine lawmakers pass bill to make ranked choice voting statewide model for all elections

Tuesday, the House and Senate voted on a bill to make ranked choice voting the statewide model for all elections.
The bill passed both chambers of the legislature.
If enacted into law, ranked choice voting will be implemented for all Maine elections, including for governor, state senators and state representatives.
Voters of Maine have told us
“For peoples’ voices to be heard in who their first choice is, and if their first choice doesn’t make it, have their second choice be the person elected. That is what the voters of Maine have told us that they want. It’s the most democratic system I think we can enact,” Rep. Adam Lee (D-Auburn) said.
