ALBUQUERQUE, N. M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque voters head back to the polls next month to pick a mayor and a few city councilors in a runoff, where turnout is almost guaranteed to be lower. But what if the city could avoid a runoff with ranked choice voting?

Most of the voters…had no clue they had to vote again

"As a candidate who had to participate in a runoff, I'll tell you that most of the voters that I engaged with in that last month had no clue they had to vote again," said Albuquerque Councilor Nichole Rogers, District 6.

Both Santa Fe and Las Cruces use ranked choice in city elections.
